During the last 10 years, the network of Chambers of Commerce in Spain, and the local part of this network: the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Badajoz, has conducted significant and necessary work in supporting business development and growth. This has included adapted training and daily assistance in legal and administrative matters, through to organisating and accompanying members on trade missions and trade fairs overseas.
Within this set of services for companies and professionals, which are always carried-out in an appropriate manner depending on the task at hand, the promotion of innovation and technology transfer has always taken a both a strategic and operational position. In this sense, the two public financing programs: InnoCamaras and TICCamaras, are perfect examples of type of promotion activity for business innovation carried out by the Chamber of Badajoz.
Beyond the data, which itself shows the broad support to business innovation - more than 1500 companies have benefited and over 9 million euros have been allocated - it is necessary to single out the real impact of these programs, through its success stories.
There are many practical examples of the boost to regional business competitiveness, which the Chamber of Badajoz has achieved with these actions. For example, the development of new lycopene cosmetic products and essential oils with aromatic plants; the introduction of drones in surveying services and environmental control; the introduction of renewable energy processes for the production of craft beer and diagnostic softwares for road safety in cities; production equipment for new products; processes for quality improvement; prototypes for active and intelligent lighting; the pumping of water; new sports equipment; virtual or mobile information platforms; 3D scanning systems, etc. Recently, TROIL Vegas Altas was identified, as an example of good practice at the national level, for its development and integration of a pilot plant for the production of biogas to improve its production processes.
With this backdrop, the Chamber of Badajoz has taken part in an international project, SMETHOD, funded by the European H2020 Program. It aims to maximize the impact of its actions to promote business innovation and achieve constant improvement in the efficiency of use of public resources. The project will generate new methodologies and an automated decision-making system that provides a more precise evaluation of the needs of companies and proposes better fitting support measures. Through this project, the Chamber will have means to optimize the different forms of support, which will lead to a greater number of success stories and with them, increased economic development and job creation.
